Earth Day 2010

With Earth Day quickly approaching Habitat ReStores all around the country are talking about what they are doing to help spread a little green in your pockets and on the Earth. This Earth Day (April 22), they want to remind to "go green" by shopping and donating at your local Habitat ReStore. ReStores are not only great for Habitat; they are good for the planet.

At the Lancaster Habitat ReStore "Going Green," is more than a slogan, it's the way we operate. Our slogan, "Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose," is our way to communicate what we are trying to do with our store.

The ReStore serves two main purposes. One, to make money for Lancaster Area Habitat for Humanity and two to give a place for people in the community to donate new and gently used materials that they have no need for anymore. Instead of throwing things into the dump we can take them and "repurpose" them for someone else. In the end this saves time, money, resources, and ultimately our Earth.

Below are some ideas of how you can help by participating and what else the ReStore is doing.

The Lancaster Habitat ReStore is 1 of 61 businesses in Pennsylvania that is participating in WWF's Earth Hour. This historic event began in 2007 in Australia. At 8:30 PM on March 27, 2010 the world will once again join together and turn off their lights to combat climate change. For more information on this historic event visit http://www.myearthhour.org/about and watch the Earth Hour video on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FclcMfzjwug.

The ReStore will also be at a conference at Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren on April 18 for participants to learn more about us and going green. For more information on this event you can contact Pat Williams at peppermintpatty12@embarqmail.com.
